About Us

Royalties for Regions was established at the end of 2008 when the State Government announced its commitment to return the equivalent of 25 per cent of the State’s mining and onshore petroleum royalties’ revenue to regional Western Australia. View the Media statement.

The initial work on Royalties for Regions was carried out by the Major Regional Projects Division in the Department of Local Government and Regional Development. On 1 July 2009 the division became part of the new Department of Regional Development and Lands.

Royalties for Regions is a plan for the whole of Western Australia, with a focus on building communities in regional areas through six policy objectives:
  • building capacity in regional communities
  • retaining benefits in regional communities
  • improving services to regional communities
  • attaining sustainability
  • expanding opportunity; and
  • growing prosperity.
